Conventions

I have convention brochures from all eras of the Disneyland Hotel. I also have some great photos from the Molly Wrather Dolle portfolio which I will also be posting. Ironically, it was the need for continual updates to convention facilities which led to the demise of the Wrather Corporation. To grow and attract more business, it was necessary to expand. Especially considering that new hotels were springing up all over the Disneyland area and the Anaheim Convention Center was added in 1967. It was the 1972 facilities (currently in place at the Hotel) which basically bankrupted the Disneyland Hotel. They never could quite recover from the loans needed to build the grand convention facilities you can see today at the Hotel. I wish I could have included these shots in the book http://www.magicalhotel.com but I didn't have access to them until after the book was released.

Great posts Don! I love seeing the old photos and brochures of the DLH.

One request -- if it's possible could the photos be linked to a larger size version, so the text could be read more easily?

Thanks for a great blog!

Thanks for the message. I am still working my way through the set up on the fields in the blog. I am learning and hope to have some things fixed shortly.

Hello Donald---

I attended two conventions at the Hotel in 1981-1982. It was a great place for a 13-14 year-old in a three piece suit!

I enjoyed having lobster-bisque at The Shipyard Inn and playing Berzerk (a popular video game) at the arcade in one of the converted Garden Rooms---I have LOTS of great memories associated with those conventions.

Please post some of the Convention Center shots which aren't in the book. It would be great to see some of the memoriabilia as well...

Perhaps you have the brochures from my conventions?

Both of them concerned aerospace and hyper-vacuum design...One took place in April, 1981, and the other in November, 1982...if I recall correctly...

Thank you for your efforts. I'm sure there are plenty of others like me who are truly interested in the history of this great Hotel...

Take care---

Why do I not see the photos? I see the blog, not the photos.
